Consumers in the UK are to be targeted by a new advertising campaign from the Moroccan National Tourist Office (MNTO).
The organisation is increasing investment in marketing the North African country overseas in order to attract more foreign visitors. Expenditure of the promotional drive will increase by 20% on this year to £1.8 million, which will be spent on print, poster and television advertising.
The campaign will highlight the diversity of Morocco as a holiday destination and will focus on established tourist spots such as Marrakech. The Moroccan city was highlighted as a popular location among winter holidaymakers by TravelRepublic.co.uk, which said they were leaving the UK in order to enjoy warmer conditions elsewhere.
The website added that the popularity of Morocco for festive travellers was a surprise, since most were going to more established European holiday destinations such as Spain and Portugal.
According to figures from MNTO, the number of visitors to Morocco from the UK increased by almost a third this year compared with 2006.
This means that Britons are the fastest-growing tourist market in the country.
